About Jina
Jina Kwon is a Korean illustrator based in New York City. She is currently a student of School of Visual Arts majoring in illustration. She used to practice sculpture back in Seoul. She had her first exhibition at Gachon University. Her main focus was sculpting human bodies, and she uses this background in her illustrations to render her characters to have 3-dimensional features.
She loves to put a hint of surrealism in her folktale and children’s book illustrations. She has collaborated with Guo, a South Korean book club, about their rewritten traditional folktale book called The Fairy Didn’t Put Up with it. She gets inspiration from her childhood and ordinary people’s stories of their mundane daily lives. She also loves to make pattern illustrations and her wallpaper pattern work has been recognized by local coffee shop, Chippedcup, in NYC. Her goal is to be relatable and to make everyone feel included via her illustrations.
